READING PARTNERSHIP
Since 2012, The Reading Partnership has been delivering the Reading Partnership for Parents program (RPP). RPP is an evidence-based program that has helped hundreds of caregivers teach their children ages 4-6 to read. Delivered in 10 weekly lessons, trained facilitators introduce learning strategies as kids and their caregivers participate in play-based activities. At the end of the program, caregivers will have the skills, knowledge, resources, patience and confidence to create a positive learning environment at home.
RPP helps caregivers support their little learners to learn, practice, and master these skills:
- Identify and recall the names and sounds of letters
- Decode: Blend sounds to read words
- Encode: Use sounds to spell and write words
- Identify and recall non-decodable words
- Read independently and improve comprehension
Delivered in-person, kids and their families attend weekly sessions that bring communities together for learning and fun. RPP Live is held at accessible community locations, and provides direct, hands-on support for families from program facilitators.
Delivered virtually, RPP Online offers the same benefits as RPP from the comfort of your own home.
RPBP is an affinity program of RPP that offers Black-only participation, all Black facilitators and creates a safe space for Black families to come together and learn in-person or online.
Our educators and program facilitators are trained teachers, ECEs and community-based education workers who are passionate about literacy, and experienced in working with kids and caregivers.
When you sign up for RPP, you’ll get a free Literacy Kit (“Lit Kit”), designed by professional educators. Inside the kit is everything you’ll need to jump-start your child’s literacy journey, and participate in the program. See what’s inside your Lit Kit.
There’s good evidence to show that when parents get involved with reading at home, kids do better overall. Research is a priority for us, and if you’re interested you can read the full report here.
TESTIMONIAL
The materials, strategies and ideas are valuable! Makes it easy to continue practicing and learning after RPP is done. It was nice to hear tips and tricks from other parents during the Sharing is Caring time slots. Also a good excuse to spend quality time with your child!
